American Lullaby, a new full-length play by Cassandra Lewis, will be presented in Manhattan Repertory Theatre’s Winterfest 2011 and produced by Bastille Arts.
American Lullaby is set in an old southern plantation a few days before Christmas in present time. Buddy, a recently retired white Congressman is recovering from a heart attack. His daughter, Faith, is taking care of him when a stranger, a black professor named Tobias, comes to the door. He asks to use the phone to call a mechanic for his broken down car. During the wait for help, secrets spill and hidden agendas are revealed that explore how the lives of the three characters are intimately tangled through trauma and a history that haunts every American.
